S. Süreyya Önder became the language, memory, and conscience of Turkey’s politics and Kurdish people

Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Deputy Speaker of Parliament and member of the İmralı Delegation of the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), passed away at Florence Nightingale Hospital, where he was receiving treatment. Önder had been fighting for his life in the hospital for 18 days.

Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who once said “Peace will inevitably come one day, and we will not give up the struggle until that day,” was one of the most important figures in the Kurdish political movement in Turkey, known for his resilient and pro-peace advocacy for a democratic society. His struggle for democracy will continue through the actions of all those he inspired, and in the movements he dedicated his life to.

Our campaign sends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who worked with him over the years on the peace process.
